Donald Trump, “I love Hispanics”
My observations of the Trump Rally began a mile north of Sunport Boulevard on I-25 until Donald J. Trump left the podium. It took a day to collect my thoughts and put them on paper.
My Observations of the Trump Rally
It took me almost four hours to get to the Trump rally, and I expected it would be longer for most rally-goers. Why did it take so long to get to the venue in Albuquerque when it took a quarter of the time to get to the rally in Rio Rancho? Mayor Keller denied President Trump access to the Albuquerque Convention Center (which has excellent access and parking). Governor Lujan-Grisham's New Mexico State Police and Mayor Keller’s Albuquerque Police Department brought chaos from Albuquerque’s neighborhoods into every intersection on the road into the rally. Land Commissioner Garcia-Richards denied rally-goers access to the Isleta Amphitheater parking lot. Despite the delays, I only saw a few cars drive away.
Before Donald Trump arrived, US Senate candidate Nella Domenici, CD-2 candidate Yvette Herrel, and past Navajo Nation VP Myron Lizer spoke to warm up the crowd.
Trump Force One pulled up just behind the stands, and Donald Trump descended the steps to Rest In Peace. He was not dressed in his usual immaculate suit and signature long tie but in a dark suit, an open-collar white shirt with an even darker open overcoat, and a bulletproof vest. My buddy Joel informed me that the music and the dark open overcoat were classic entrance of the professional wrestler “The Undertaker.”
The Trump rally started with an invocation by a Catholic priest. In contrast, every Republican Party of New Mexico event I have attended began with an invocation by an Evangelical. On many occasions, it seemed the event was more of a “Tent Revival” than a political event.
Donald Trump shared a conversation that occurred on the plane. If it is Latino on the East Coast and Hispanic on the West Coast, what is it in New Mexico? He asked the crowd, “Is it Latino?” The response was a murmur. “Is it Hispanic?” and the crowd thundered. We Got It, It’s All American.
Trump called out the Biden/Harris Administration for their Anti-Catholic rhetoric and persecution of Catholics. They want to prosecute Catholics who will not perform abortions because of their religious beliefs. Instead of attending Archbishop Dolan Al Smith's Dinner, Harris sent a video mocking Catholics. Trump said he thought “we put away the Anti-Catholic behavior when John Kennedy was elected in 1960.” He then asked, “Are there any Catholics in the crowd?” he received a resounding yes. He then made it clear to all the Catholics in the crowd and beyond that they could call the Trump White House home and sanctuary from the Democrats’ persecution.
Donald Trump called out the Biden/Harris Administration for Destroying the middle class with inflation and interest rates, Out-of-Control Immigration, Rampant Crime, and Destabilizing Europe/Middle East/Asia. He then proceeded with what he would do and how to “Make America Great Again.” He didn’t say better; he Said Great.
Before Trump's speech ended, he recognized the former New Mexico Governor (the first Woman Hispanic Governor in the nation), Suzanna Martinez, Candidate for Senate Nella Domenici, Former Congresswoman and candidate for Congress Yvette Herrell, and Navajo Nation V-P Mayron Lizzi. Of the four, only Suzanna Martinez did not speak to the crowd. I expect President Trump to address this slight with the RPNM and Steve Pearce.
My thoughts about what it means to you
No matter what hurdles Governor Lujan-Grisham, Land Commissioner Garcia-Richards, and Mayor Keller put in the way of the Donald J. Trump supporters, they will not be denied access to see and hear from our next President of the United States.
Donald Trump was ready to do business when he walked off that plane. He/We were going to win; He/We were going to have fun. We knew that Donald J. Trump would protect us from unfair prosecution by the federal government and defend America from foreign powers.
Donald Trump successfully welcomed Catholics and Hispanics into the Republican Party of New Mexico, which I had attempted to do in 2018 and 2020 with the help of Deal Hudson.
Donald Trump attempted to start mending the rift between the Martinez and Pearce camps, but Martinez's exclusion left it for another day (to the relief of the Santa Fe Democrats).
Donald Trump gave the 7-10,000 rally-goers a couple of hours to experience what being on top is like. Let’s work to make New Mexico the Great State of New Mexico again. It starts with electing Donald Trump and making Democrat Javiar Martinez and Democrat Mimi Stewart minority leaders in the Round House.
On a personal note.
When I ran for the US Senate in 2018, I realized there were two camps in the New Mexico Republican Party. I incorrectly assumed that by being an “outsider,” I could earn the support of both camps. Instead, I was mistrusted by both. This infighting must end if we are to elect state-wide Republican candidates that will turn our state around.
Vote this Tuesday. Your vote will help Donald Trump win the popular vote.
