Maya Reeves and Willow Sprague-Robinson are the 2024 recipients of the Ella, Michael, and Ella Memorial Scholarship. Reeves was awarded $1000 and Sprague-Robinson will receive $500.Â
Aldo Leopold Charter School's Ella, Michael, and Ella Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of the Aldo Leopold Charter School students Ella Kirk, Michael Mahl and Ella Myers who lost their lives in a small airplane accident in May of 2014. Their dedication to environmental studies, music and the arts, and their level of community involvement and civic engagement serves as an inspiration to all.Â
The scholarship provides Aldo Leopold Charter School graduates the opportunity to reach their own potential. The mission of the scholarship is to inspire young people to follow their passion for the environment, arts, music and community involvement, and to support young people as they begin post-secondary studies.Â
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be current Aldo Leopold High School graduating seniors; plan to enroll full-time in college, community college, trade, or vocational school in fall 2024; have maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA throughout high school; have a strong commitment to community involvement; and have an interest in music, arts, environmental science, and/or community sustainability.Â
Maya Reeves plans to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara to study marine biology and Willow Sprague-Robinson will attend Bard College in Red Hook, NY to pursue a degree in sustainable architectural design.Â
