HMS ChildSilver City, NM – Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) proudly provided an engaging oral health hygiene class to 29 students from Gila Home Schoolers on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Organized by the HMS Dental Division, this educational session highlighted the importance of preventive oral care and reflected HMS's strong commitment to community health.

The session, held at the HMS Dental Clinic, included age-appropriate instruction on proper brushing and flossing techniques, the effects of nutrition on oral health, and the importance of routine dental checkups. The students participated in demonstrations and interactive learning activities, leaving the event better equipped to care for their teeth and gums.

"This type of community education is at the heart of our mission," said Alicia Barragan, Director of the HMS Dental Division. "We are honored to support our local youth by equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need to make healthy choices."

A special thank you goes to Alicia Barragan, Dental Division Director; Amy Armendariz and Sadee Toms, Dental Assistants; and Ethan Novikoff, HMS Chief Quality Officer, for their leadership in delivering this vital educational experience.

Parents also expressed appreciation for the event. "We are grateful to the HMS dental team and administration for collaborating with our group," said Nichole Legatzke, a parent of one of the students. "The children had many laughs and learned a great deal through a fun and informative experience."

Hidalgo Medical Services continues to expand its outreach efforts in Grant and Hidalgo counties, ensuring families across the region have access to both healthcare and health education.
