Carlene Roters' Exhibition Opening

Download as iCal file

Saturday, October 08, 2022, 04:00pm - 07:00pm

Blue Dome Gallery in Silver City exhibits the awe-inspiring wooden sculptures of local artist Carlene Roters on October 8, 4:00 PM-7:00 PM. The astonishing scale and number of sculptures will create a lasting impression for all who attend. Roters has been working on these pieces for the past nine years.

Describing woodworking as seductive, Carlene thoughtfully considers the direction each piece of wood will take her. “I try to take into consideration the attributes of the material I am using as I carve, and let it show through, so it is not just me manipulating the material and influencing the outcome. I like the fact that I am in essence collaborating with the material. That gives my carving a bit more mystery and forces me into new ways of thinking and seeing, which thrills me.”

About the Artist

Carlene Roters is accomplished as a painter, and printmaker, as well as educator. She earned her B.F.A. at Syracuse University and her M.F.A. from Arizona State University. She joined Western New Mexico University’s Expressive Arts Department in Fall of 1999. Her artwork is exhibited both nationally and internationally, and she has been showing at Blue Dome Gallery since 2000.

Roters' works are on view from October 8 -December 7.
