GRANT COUNTY - Veteran, businessman, and former State Senator Gabriel Ramos today filed for a place on the ballot for New Mexico State Senate District 28. Without a primary opponent, Ramos faces incumbent Siah Correa Hemphill in the General Election.
Like many in Southern New Mexico, Ramos is a Hispanic Catholic, and until recently, was a lifelong Democrat. He is now running as a Republican after radical extremists took over the Democrat party and have since led New Mexico down a path of sky-high taxes, a lack of family values, and heavy-handed government, he said.
"People across New Mexico are feeling sidelined by politicians who care more about power, control, and their own political agenda than the jobs and families they represent. The divisive, extreme, out-of-touch policies coming out of Santa Fe is hurting our state. We need far less politicians and more community servants in office. I began serving my country and my state when I was very young, and I continue to stand ready to serve, ready to be a voice for the things real New Mexicans care about," said Ramos.
Ramos first engaged in public service when he was elected to Grant County Clerk at age 25. He was later elected to serve on the Cobre School Board, Hurley Town Council and then the Grant County Commission for eight years before being appointed to the New Mexico Senate in 2019.
In addition to his public service, Ramos has a background of service to our country and the state of New Mexico. He joined the New Mexico National Guard at 17, then went to work at the Hurley Mines before opening his own car wash business, as well as working in the insurance business.
