On Thursday, March 6, 2025, at approximately 8:06 a.m. a Bayard Police Department officers were dispatched to Snell Middle School in reference to a school threat. According to a BPD incident report, the principal of the school told the officers that a student came to her that morning reporting she overheard another student state, "I'm going to shoot up the school tomorrow or Monday." The student making the threat was a 14-year-old male from Vanadium.

The report said it was known this student was close friends with the two juveniles arrested the day before for making shooting threats toward Cobre High School where it was reported a handgun was taken to the school. The owner of that handgun reported it stolen, the report stated, but it has not been located.

The student was in the Aspire program at Cobre High School, the report stated, "due to his extensive list of disciplinary violations including several fights, defiance of authority, vaping/drug use, and class disruption."

The juvenile has been charged with bomb scares and shooting threats unlawful. Grant County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested the juvenile at his home and transported him to the Dona Ana Detention Center after being cleared for incarceration by the Gila Regional Medical Center.
