Monday is a fee-free day at Catwalk Recreation Area
All Gila National Forest offices will be closed on Monday, February 19 in commemoration of Presidents Day. Offices in Silver City, Mimbres, Glenwood, Truth or Consequences, Reserve, and Quemado will reopen with their normal business hours on Tuesday, February 20.
"On Presidents Day we honor those who have served as American Presidents," said Forest Supervisor Camille Howes. "I hope you'll enjoy some time outdoors on your public lands and take advantage of a fee-free Presidents Day at the Catwalk Recreation Area."
The Forest Service offers six fee-free days per year to encourage visitors to spend time outdoors and visit their public lands. Presidents Day has been identified as one of the Forest Service fee-free days in 2024, making the Catwalk Recreation Area a free site on Monday, February 19.
Other fee-free days in 2024 are National Get Outdoors Day, June 8; Juneteenth, June 19; National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28; and Veterans Day, November 11 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, on Jan. 15 was also a fee free day).
