The public is invited free of charge to the continuing noon Lunch & Learn series, with two dates scheduled in September. Lunch & Learn is brought through a partnership between the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL) and the Silver City Museum, and has been WILL's gift to Silver City since 2006.
On Wednesday September 18th from 12 to 1 pm, "Spoken Word – Painting with Words" will be presented by Lynne Zotalis, Shelly Barnett and Pamela Warren Williams. Spoken Word is more than just poetry; it's a vibrant form of storytelling that resonates deeply with our shared experiences and individual truths. Please join these three talented, local writers as they perform a few of their selected works. The three, along with poet Leonore Hildebrandt, published a poetry collection last year entitled Upward Spiral, Poems of Opening and Renewal, available at local bookstores and Amazon.
On Wednesday September 25th from 12 to 1:15 pm, local nature writer Sharman Russell will present "What Walks This Way: Discovering the Wildlife Around Us Through Their Tracks and Signs". With wit and compassion, Russell explores the joys of learning to recognize the traces of the creatures with whom we share our world. Sharman is the author of twelve books translated into nine languages, and is the recipient of the 2016 John Burroughs Medal for Distinguished Natural History Writing for Diary of a Citizen Scientist, which also won the WILLA Award and was named by The Guardian as a top ten nature book.
Both events will be held at the WNMU Besse-Forward Global Resource Center's ABC Room (817 W 12th Street, Silver City), beginning at 12 noon. They can also be streamed live through https://wnmu.zoom.us/j/8818268280. Registration is not necessary.
