Portales, NM – April 2, 2025 – Eastern New Mexico University proudly presents the 48th annual Jack Williamson Lectureship on April 10-12, 2025
The theme for his year's lectureship is "Worlds Beyond." The lectureship is named after a revered science fiction author, ENMU alumnus, and emeritus Dr Jack Williamson.
ENMU proudly welcomes Locus, Nebula, and Ignyte award winner Darice Little Badger as the guest of honor. Darcie is a Lipan Apache writer with a PhD in oceanography. Her critically acclaimed debut novel, Elatsoe, was featured in Time Magazine as one of the best 100 fantasy books of all time.
"The legacy of Jack Williamson is such a treasure for ENMU and the science fiction world," said James Johnston, ENMU Chancellor. "The Jack Williamson Lectureship is a unique science fiction experience, and ENMU is happy to again provide it for our campus and community."
Connie Willis, who has published science fiction and fantasy work for over 50 years, will be Mistress of Ceremonies for this year's Lectureship Luncheon. Her most recent novel, "The Road to Roswell," was released in June 2023.
"We are excited to continue the tradition that Jack Williamson began here at ENMU," said David Sweeten, Chair of the Williamson Lectureship. "This is a unique event that brings together authors of science and other speculative fiction with academics studying it, fans who love to read and watch it, and the community of our campus and region. We'll have lively discussion, signings, engaging events, and a celebration of the community that Jack Williamson fostered."
Highlights of this year's lectureship include a reading with Guest of Honor Darci Little Badger; lively discussions at our author panels, the annual Cantina Carnival featuring an evening of sci-fi fun for the whole family; the annual lectureship luncheon specially catered by ENMU's Culinary Art program, and a creative writing workshop with Connie Willis.
