MartinezAlfredoAlfredo "Fred" Gutierrez Martinez, 93, an Army Veteran and resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Santa Clara, NM.

Fred passed away peacefully after a life marked by dedication to his faith, family, service and hard work. Born in Duncan, Arizona on May 28, 1931 to his parents, Raphael and Flora (Gutierrez) Martinez, he later made his home in Santa Rita where he proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On February 19, 1955, Fred married the love of his life, Tina, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span nearly seven decades. Their enduring union was a testament to their deep devotion and commitment to one another.

Fred built his career in the grocery industry, starting at the Santa Rita Store before spending 42 years as a floor manager at Bailey's grocery store. His strong work ethic and dedication to customer service were hallmarks of his professional life. Following his retirement, Fred found joy in tending to his yard and garden, creating a beautiful, outdoor sanctuary for his family to enjoy.

A sports enthusiast, Fred was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Pittsburg Steelers. He delighted in playing cards and cherished the time spent with his beloved granddaughters and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years. He was also a very devoted Catholic and parishioner of Santa Clara Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ernestina "Tina" (Beltran) Martinez; his two daughters, Tessie Silva (Rick) of Silver City, NM and Eva Ortiz of Las Cruces, NM; his siblings; Nellie Frey of El Paso, TX, Esther Pedroza of Tucson, AZ, Ralph Martinez of Prescott, AZ; his five grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his three great-great-grandchildren; his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Concepcion Martinez; his sister, Ernestina Martinez; and his son-in-law, Abraham Ortiz.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 10:00am-10:45am at Santa Clara Catholic Church, with the Holy Rosary commencing at 11:00am, recited by Deacon Ed Fierro. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30am, with Father Ephraim Ezulike officiating. Fred will then be laid to rest at 1:00pm, at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where he will receive Full Military Honors. Pallbearers are Dylan Rottman, Orion Rottman, Julian Palacios, Javier Palacios; Javier Ortiz; Matthew Chavez and Michael Puentes. Honorary Pallbearers are his Godchildren and Compadres.
