David Casarez, 96, of Bayard passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024 at ten o'clock in the morning at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard.  The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will start at eleven o'clock in the morning followed by the Funeral Liturgy.  Concluding service and burial will be at one o'clock in the afternoon at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded. Officiating will be Father Martin Okonkwo. Serving as pallbearers are his grandchildren, Adam Klunder, Anthony Klunder, Sonia Hoefler Barners, David Hoefler, Mark Klunder and William Hoefler
David was born on December 24, 1927 to Pablo and Paz Casarez in Garfield, NM. Â David married Rosa Polanco on October 16, 1953 and they were together for 70 years before his passing. Â He was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.Â
He was also involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years. David worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation from 1945 to 1980. After working at Kennecott for three weeks, he was called to duty where he served honorably in the United States Army, but then returned to continue his job at Kennecott. David will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived by his wife, Rosa P Casarez; daughters, Olga Casarez (Mark Klunder), Carmen Hoefler (William); grandchildren, Adam Klunder, Anthony Klunder, Sonia Hoefler Barnes and David Hoefler; great-grandchildren, Molly Hoefler, Paige Hoefler, Callie Hoefler, Paisley Storey, Brooklynn Barnes and Palmer Barnes. Also surviving David are many nieces and nephews, all living in California.
