TaylorEvelynEvelyn Jo Taylor passed away peacefully August 27, 2024, at the age of 91.

Evelyn was born in Deming, New Mexico to George and Sophie Katz at the family's gas station and homestead. She grew up on the family's farm south of Deming where they raised cows and grew cotton, grain, corn and pinto beans.

Evelyn was a hard worker. She helped on the farm and later worked at the Deming telephone company. She worked the family ranch for years when she married Bill Godfrey of Animas. She even trapped and skinned animals. Not one to ever rest, she got a job in the forest service in her late 60s. Evelyn lived on her own 2 acres on the outskirts of the Gila National Forest and took care of it herself well into her 80s.

Evelyn was a spitfire. She was competitive and could play bridge, poker, or scrabble for hours. She told the best jokes and could make you laugh even when she wasn't trying to. Nothing got past Evelyn.

Evelyn was a great cook. Fresh bread was always baking in the oven. You never went hungry in her house. She loved to sew and paint. She took long walks and had the most impressive collection of arrowheads.

Evelyn, also known as Granny to many, is survived by her daughters Pamela Frie, Rhonda McGrath (Michael), Brenda Richardson (Vern) and Thelma Been (George). Also by grandchildren Tasha, Billie (James), Chastity (Charles), Laura (Scott), Lisa, Amanda (JJ), Melissa (Brian), Katy, Jim (Jen), Mary (Tonie), Paul (Kalee), Maggie (Arthur), Walter, and Will (Chelsea).
