Manuel Ramirez, 96, an Army Veteran and resident of Lordsburg, NM, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at his residence in Lordsburg, NM. He was born on July 4, 1927 to his parents, Lorenzo and Maria (Salgado) Ramirez in Sierra Blanca, TX, where our father was born and raised. He joined the United States Army and later was hired by Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked most of his life. He met his beautiful wife Olivia while working at the train depot in Lordsburg. They made Lordsburg their home and raised their four children. He was a very proud and loyal member of the LULAC club. After retiring from the railroad, he lived many more years to enjoy his retirement. One of the highlights for him was being able to attend the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. He loved listening to music, especially Spanish music from his upbringing. Most of the time you would either find him working outside on tasks or on his computer looking up prayers. He also loved watching T.V. His favorite sports to watch were boxing and soccer. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. They looked up to him as he guided them throughout life. Our father enjoyed food, especially his son-in-laws Tommy's cooking, jalapeño poppers to be exact the extra extra hot the better!
He is survived by his three sons, Manuel A Ramirez, Jr. of Douglas, AZ, David Ramirez of Lordsburg, NM and Patrick Ramirez of Lordsburg, NM; his daughter, Sylvia Lopez (Tommy) of Lordsburg, NM; his eleven grandchildren; his twenty-one great-grandchildren; his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his lovely wife, Olivia (Altuna) Ramirez; his daughter in law, Judy L. Ramirez; his two brothers, Lorenzo and Conrado Ramirez; his three sisters, Katarina Lopez, Laca Ortega, Rosa Castillo; and his grandson, Manuel L. Ramirez III.Â
We know he is now reunited with his lovely wife and will be laid to rest by his request; a private burial was held with just his family and grandchildren attending. Honorary pallbearers are his great grandchildren. He will be missed tremendously but will always be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.Â
