Matthew (Matt) L. Lynch, 84, a long-time resident of Deming, N.M. died on July 30, 2024. He was a beloved husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend. He passed peacefully following a short illness with his loving wife and best friend, Rose, by his side.
Born in 1939, at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., to Matthew Lester and Kathryn E. McCarron Lynch. He was the first born child of six.
Matt grew up in Jersey City and spent many memorable summers in Manasquan, N.J. He graduated in 1962 from St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. From 1962-1965 he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp (1stLt). He was a Vietnam Veteran and a proud Marine. Semper Fi!
Matt had an adventuresome spirit and along the way made countless life-long friends in the various places he called home from Hawaii to Washington, D.C.; from Vermont to Binghamton and Saratoga N.Y.; and from North Adams, MA. to Deming, N.M. He was a licensed commercial pilot and had a life-long passion for flying. He was the proud owner and pilot of a yellow and red American Champion Super Decathlon aerobatic airplane that he flew every day.
From an early age, Matt had an innate sense of curiosity about people and the world. His life was filled with unselfish deeds. Matt never met a stranger. To everyone who knew him, he was kind and supportive. He made a positive difference in the lives of both people and animals. Matt loved his far-flung family and friends deeply and would call them often just to check-in on them.
Matt married Rose Waite in 1983 and they began their journey together in North Adams, Mass. Together they raised a family and were successful business owners. They hosted family reunions and many enjoyable gatherings with their extended family. When they retired to Deming, N.M. Matt continued to fly his beloved Super Decathlon. Matt and Rose became an integral part of a new circle of friends and brought many new animals into their lives. For the past five years Matt's constant companion was his loyal dog, Charlie. Matt and Charlie spent many happy hours at the dog park with stops at McDonald's on the way home.
Matt's commitment to his community was expressed in many different ways. He did volunteer work for years for the Meals on Wheels Program and Cancer Support of Deming and Luna County.
Matt is survived by his wife, Rose; step-children Jonathan Waite and Rebecca Taylor; siblings Edmund Lynch (Aud Bakken), Robert Lynch (Kathy Carlin), Larry Lynch (Anne Collins), and Mary Kay Lynch; nephews and nieces, Anders Lynch (Olha Shkapina), Nicole Lynch (Patrick Clinton), Liam Lynch (Kristine Covillo), Shannon, Christopher, Timothy and Sean Lynch; seven great nieces and nephews; cousins Mary Jo Hieb, and Barbara Lynch. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Brian and his former wife Jean Parker.
