Rowena "Weenie" Tate, 81, a resident of Silver City, NM, entered eternal rest Saturday, April 5, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 16, 1943 in Long Beach, CA to Ike and Wilda Harsh. Rowena grew up all over New Mexico as her family followed her father's road construction career. She graduated from Grants High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry E. Tate, on June 13, 1962. They raised four children together. After moving to Silver City in 1968, Rowena immersed herself in driving the activity bus for Silver Schools and being involved in her children's activities. She then started working at the Grant County Treasurer's Office in 1984 where she served for 23 years and fully retired in 2007. Her passions were boasting about her children's accomplishments and doing her best to be present at her grandkids activities; whether it was football games or prom in Morenci to late nights at the baseball fields to the chile sales for FFA. She was involved in the local 4-H clubs and FFA chapter starting with her kids in the 1980's. Her work in the 4-H and FFA continued into her grandkids' school years. Her hobbies included simply going to all of the events, fundraisers, dances, homecoming parades, and games that her family had going on. Her favorite things were being involved with her church and family.
She was the mom and grandma of Grant County 4-H and Silver FFA. Everyone knew that she would take care of them if they needed it. She enjoyed being with all of her family and watching grandkids and great-grandkids run around. Whether it was bringing a new great-grandkid into the family or something in school or their lives, she was beyond proud. Rowena "Weenie" was the lady everyone knew and depended on and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We will love and miss her, Weenie, Mom, and Granma. Although she is greatly missed here on earth, we know that the reunion with her husband and son was grand.
She is survived by her children; son, Roy Tate (Rose) of Morenci, AZ; daughters, Tyra Moore of Silver City; Tayna Miller (Brian) of Silver City; eight granddaughters, Marissa Manzo (Danny) and children Daniel and Viviana; Myra Tate and daughter, McKenna; Miranda Cook (Levi) and children Lane and Tatum; StarrAnn Moon (Dillon) and children DanikaAnn, Kannon, and DarcieJo; Summer Morgan (Dakota) and children Claudia, Westin, and Carson; Madison and Allie Miller; Tristan Oaxaca (Victor) and children Andre, Aztan, Avikx, and Azania; four grandsons, Roy "Bubba" Tate (Erika) and daughter Gianna; Austin Tate (Manta) and children Easton and Hadley; Cooper Miller and Traeton Zumwalt; and multiple nieces and nephews; along with many other kids of all ages throughout her years, that she took under her wing and called her own. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Larry "Tater" Tate; her parents; one son, Loy Tate; one great-grandson, Aaron Anthony Tate (2005); her brother Eddie Harsh; her sister, Bessie Lou Hardt and friend, Pat Valencia.
