Securing research and development funding for innovative solutions with high-impact potential can be a daunting task for newly formed startups. The federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs provide a pathway for small businesses to secure non-dilutive federal investment, awarding more than $4 billion in funding annually.
The 11 federal agencies participating in these programs all have specific requirements for startups to navigate. The New Mexico Federal and State Technology (NM FAST) partnership program provides support to regional technology focused startups as they approach federal agencies providing these R&D funding opportunties. The NM FAST program aims to provide support across industries aligning with New Mexico's growing technology ecosystem including agricultural-, defense-, bioscience -and energy-focused startups. As energy-focused opportunities have grown in New Mexico, so has Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University's support of the energy technology ecosystem.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. In a partnership with the city of Las Cruces and local law enforcement, New Mexico State University's Department of Criminal Justice is publicly displaying the "Clothesline Project," created last fall.
In October of 2023, more than 200 T-shirts were displayed in New Mexico State University's Corbett Center. Each shirt tells a story, as they were each decorated with hand-written messages from survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence. Survivor voices were amplified as the community gathered to connect and share these stories.

New Mexico State University's Golf Course has once again ranked in Golf Advisor's list of "Top 25 College Golf Courses - Golfers' Choice 2024." The ranking comes from Golf Advisor's "GolfNow," an online booking service for tee times at golf courses around the country.
"The ranking validates all the hard work we have done over the years. For the most part we are self-made," said Jason White, golf course director at NMSU Golf Course. "Besides the new irrigation system that was installed in 2014, the improvements made to the golf course layout have been completed by our maintenance staff. A ranking like this, voted on by golfers, proves we are moving in the right direction." Â
In the very near future, students taking online courses will have a new perspective that will help them interact with classmates and faculty, thanks to a new hologram technology being developed by Cisco.
New Mexico State University is one of the only higher education institutions that get to test that technology to see how well it will work in a classroom, with students and faculty members submitting feedback to Cisco on how well they think it works and what may need to be changed.
