Caller advised a named male stole some chips and lied about it to employees/wants him removed and issued a CTW/wearing a black hoodie/he is inside near the laundry room. Officer – CTW issued for 24 hours to Armando Valencia who has a warrant for failure to appear on a battery against a healthcare worker charge.

Caller called back/male left southbound/he is very disoriented and knocked over things in the office/wants a CTW issued to the male. Officer will ATL for male.

Weather permitting, the Silver City Friends of the Library's (FOL) Bookstore and Parking Lot Book Sale will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00am-2:00pm, at 1510 Market Street across from Cheyenne Street. The sale is open to the public, free of charge. Come enjoy browsing the stacks and finding treasures, all while supporting the Silver City Public Library.

"This is our 'Welcome to Autumn' book sale," Barbara Guber, FOL bookstore manager, said. "Our volunteers worked throughout the summer processing the large number of book donations received from our community. We've restocked all our bookstore shelves.

Fiber Art Display -Photo Credit Mary RaginsThe Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective (SWFAC) has installed a Fiber Art display at the Silver City Public Library in the display case at the bottom of the stairs. The display will be shown through September 29, 2024 and showcases the work of sixteen members who participated in a Design Game.

The Design Game challenged members to create a fiber art piece based on a random design related criteria. Members drew numbers and each number corresponded to a category of materials, source of materials, color and inspiration. For some, it was quite a challenge to create with materials never before used by them!

The members hope you enjoy the display. Each item is accompanied by a placard made by Mary Ragins explaining the the items used in the challenge. There is also a full description of the Design Game that details how it was played by members. SWFAC is grateful to the Silver City Public Library for hosting the display.

Western New Mexico University will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of it Law Enforcement Training Academy. Speaking at the event will be WNMU President Joseph Shepard, Academy Direct Gilbert Najar, and Retired Police Chief Fred Radosevich, who will be offering a retrospective on the academy's first graduating class. Refreshments will be served.

Diane LeBlanc will speak on behalf of the Silver City Jacob Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at the local Rotary meeting on September 10, 2024. She will present a program on DAR, the national America250 initiative, and upcoming local DAR America 250! projects.

DAR was founded in 1890 and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of Congress. It is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

The regular monthly board meeting of the Grant Soil and Water Conservation District will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the NRCS Building; 3082 32nd Street Bypass; Suite C; Silver City, NM 88061. The meeting is open to the public.

On Wednesday, September 4, WNMU will begin paving work along Kentucky Street, taking place between College Avenue and 12th Street. This project will begin at 6:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by 6:00 p.m.

During this time, the entire roadway will be closed to all traffic, and the parking lot at the Juan Chacon Building will be inaccessible.

All staff, faculty, students and visitors to that area of campus will be diverted to the parking lot at the Fine Arts Center Theatre. This lot will only be accessible through the north entrance at 12th Street and West Rhoda Road (entering through the double gates).
