I wanted to express my gratitude to the numerous first responders on Saturday night August 31, 2024 who helped save the life of a roll-over accident victim while protecting the lives of all of the drivers coming up and down PA road.
Their valiant efforts and diligent work are truly commendable. Their jobs are not only arduous but mentally taxing as they repeatedly deal with life-threatening situations where they have to put their feelings aside. Know that I greatly appreciate you all and recognize the difficulty of your jobs day in and day out…much obliged….

September 8, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Unitarian Universalist Flower Ceremony"
The Flower Ceremony is a special Unitarian Universalist "ritual" in an organization that doesn't have traditional sacraments.
Rev. Mana'ar Johnson will explain the inspiring history behind the ceremony, begun by a European minister who died in a concentration camp.
"It allows us an opportunity to reflect on our community, its beauty and diversity. We consider what gifts we bring, symbolized by a flower we offer, and we are grateful for what others bring to our fellowship. We take home a different flower to remind us of our own beauty and that of others in our lives," Johnson said.
"It will include beautiful poetry and music, and beautiful photos by Andrew Tree of the wildflowers of Grant County, NM. Bring a single flower with you, but don't worry if you forget, we will have a few extras," she added.
Art lovers can go "'Shrooming in the Gila" at a new photography show by Kendra Milligan, opening during September's First Friday Art Walk on Sept. 6, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Made in Silver City (MISC) gallery, 206 W. Broadway St. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
New Mexico Press Association award-winning photographer, Milligan is a life-long resident of Grant County. She honed her snapshot skills during a three year stint as editor of "The Independent", a monthly newsprint magazine previously published by The Silver City Daily Press and Independent. She became fascinated by mushrooms after being waylaid during a thunderstorm while on a hike in the Gila National Forest.
"Polly Cook and I were sitting in the truck waiting out the rain when we saw something bright red across the road. Once the weather cleared, we discovered an Amanita mushroom as big as my hand pushing up through the pine needles. There were mushrooms erupting everywhere we looked. It was a magical moment."
Milligan's colorful fungus photography conveys that magical moment of discovery to viewers, and she plans to share the experience by offering mushroom guides so attendees can try to identify the fungi featured in the show.
