Three researchers from New Mexico State University's College of Health, Education and Social Transformation have received a National Science Foundation grant to fund a new research project aimed at examining public health messaging and misinformation.
The project seeks to measure the extent to which message content consistency among federal and state public health agencies is associated with the diffusion of discordant information on social media and whether individual compliance with public health recommendations is related to message content consistency.

This accelerator initiative aims to equip founders of tech startups in New Mexico with the essential knowledge and skills for effective leadership in startup organizations. It achieved notable success by helping promising startups advance their understanding of the formal governance structure of a board of directors and the strategic support provided by an advisory board. This comprehensive support enabled them to enhance their leadership effectiveness and better navigate the complexities of startup management.
New Mexico is best known for growing a variety of crops, including chile, pecans, onions and grapes, but New Mexico State University researchers are delving into several non-traditional crops to learn more about how adaptable they are to the state's regions.
The public is invited to learn more about that research during this year's field day at the Sustainable Agriculture Science Center in Alcalde, New Mexico. The field day will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at the center, located at 371 County Road 40. The event is free and will feature wagon tours of the center's research plots, along with a walking tour with researchers discussing fruit production.
New Mexico State University's Marketing and Communications department invites the NMSU and Las Cruces communities to the third annual Gratitude Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 14.
This year's family-friendly event will feature a 1-mile fun run and 5K timed race across NMSU's campus. Both will showcase campus scenery, passing landmarks such as Aggie Memorial Stadium and Corbett Center Student Union.
With newly designed routes, both races will begin at the Horseshoe. The 5K will start at 9:15 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The Las Cruces International Film Festival will host its first concert this fall in advance of the 2025 LCIFF. Los Lonely Boys, a popular band with a unique style of music called "Texican rock 'n' roll" will headline the concert.
"It has long been the goal of the Las Cruces International Film festival to expand into music," said Ross Marks, New Mexico State University professor and LCIFF executive director. "Many great festivals offer music as part of their experience. We are extremely excited to partner with the Grapevine Plaza & Event Center and Los Lonely Boys for our first-ever concert."
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Grapevine Plaza & Event Center, 3900 W. Picacho Ave., in Las Cruces. Food and drinks will be available. Tickets start at $65 for general admission if purchased in advance or $80 at the door.
New Mexico State University has received a five-year extension on its Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program designation from the Association and Public Land-Grant Universities.

New Mexico State University professor and associate dean Phillip Post has been named interim dean of NMSU's College of Health, Education and Social Transformation effective Friday, Aug. 16.
Post was previously associate dean of academic affairs for the college and is a professor of kinesiology. He also served as head of the Department of Kinesiology and is the co-director and founder of the Electronic Caregiver Virtual/Augmented Reality Laboratory at NMSU.
He earned his Ph.D. in exercise and sport sciences from the University of Tennessee. He also holds a master's degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
