New Mexico State University's Marketing and Communications department invites the NMSU and Las Cruces communities to the third annual Gratitude Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 14.
This year's family-friendly event will feature a 1-mile fun run and 5K timed race across NMSU's campus. Both will showcase campus scenery, passing landmarks such as Aggie Memorial Stadium and Corbett Center Student Union.
With newly designed routes, both races will begin at the Horseshoe. The 5K will start at 9:15 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The Las Cruces International Film Festival will host its first concert this fall in advance of the 2025 LCIFF. Los Lonely Boys, a popular band with a unique style of music called "Texican rock 'n' roll" will headline the concert.
"It has long been the goal of the Las Cruces International Film festival to expand into music," said Ross Marks, New Mexico State University professor and LCIFF executive director. "Many great festivals offer music as part of their experience. We are extremely excited to partner with the Grapevine Plaza & Event Center and Los Lonely Boys for our first-ever concert."
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Grapevine Plaza & Event Center, 3900 W. Picacho Ave., in Las Cruces. Food and drinks will be available. Tickets start at $65 for general admission if purchased in advance or $80 at the door.
New Mexico State University has received a five-year extension on its Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program designation from the Association and Public Land-Grant Universities.

New Mexico State University professor and associate dean Phillip Post has been named interim dean of NMSU's College of Health, Education and Social Transformation effective Friday, Aug. 16.
Post was previously associate dean of academic affairs for the college and is a professor of kinesiology. He also served as head of the Department of Kinesiology and is the co-director and founder of the Electronic Caregiver Virtual/Augmented Reality Laboratory at NMSU.
He earned his Ph.D. in exercise and sport sciences from the University of Tennessee. He also holds a master's degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
New Mexico State University, along with state and local law enforcement agencies, participated Thursday in a planned critical incident response training involving an active-shooter scenario.
The NMSU police and fire departments, along with New Mexico State Police, the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department, the Mesilla Marshal's Department, the Las Cruces Fire Department and the Las Cruces Police Department's SWAT team participated in Thursday's training.
Thursday's scenario began with several calls to 911 reporting shots fired inside NMSU's Branson Library. During the scenario, four people were reportedly shot and officers discovered a suspicious box in a library stairway.
