SOUTHWEST CATCHES OF THE WEEK
Gila Waters: Kevin Conlin (not pictured) caught six Gila trout using flies on Whitewater Creek on March 27. “Water was very clear and low and the fish were very spooky,” he said. “I landed six small Gila trout using a foam spider with zebra midge dropper. I saw a pod of five very large Gilas in one pool, but was unable to get them to take my fly.”
Quemado Lake: Ricky Nyhuis (not pictured) caught his limit of trout ranging from 13-15 inches using Garlic PowerBait on April 3.
Young Pond: Thomas Guzman caught four bluegill using Neon Green Glitter PowerBait on March 26. “Overcast day, but super nice,” he said. “Fish started biting around 2 p.m. My wife and I practically had the whole pond to ourselves. It was a good day!”

GALLUP, APRIL 9, 2025—The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) expresses its gratitude to U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for his visit today to the Hózhó Academy in Gallup NM, surrounded by the Navajo and Zuni Nations. Secretary Kennedy's trip highlights his deep commitment to addressing the healthcare and wellness needs of our tribal communities.
During his visit, Secretary Kennedy engaged with students, educators, and local leaders speaking on the importance of healthy eating, physical fitness, and access to quality healthcare—values that echo the legacy of the Kennedy family. His visit to the Hózhó Academy, a school celebrated for integrating healthy living and physical education into its curriculum, left a lasting impression on the nearly 1,000 attendees who filled the gym with enthusiasm and excitement.
For its May exhibit, The Mad Hatter Gallery is collaborating with two Las Cruces organizations, Success Partnership and NMCO, to recognize Doña Ana County's "Desert Heroines. The "Desert Heroines" project, begun in 2019, is an annual photographic portrait project to recognize women who advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion. This year, "Desert Heroines" celebrates the bond of mentorship, a relationship that profoundly impacts both mentors and mentees.
"The Mad Hatter Gallery is so very proud to give space, and a voice, to this year's Desert Heroines," states Penny Peace, Director of The Mad Hatter Gallery. "Not only are the women celebrated in this exhibit extraordinary and inspirational, their stories also highlight the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences from one generation to the next."

It represents yet another example of the state having to come to the rescue of the APD, such as when the Governor authorized an Albuquerque "blitz" by New Mexico State Police in 2020. Source: https://www.krqe.com/news/albuquerque-metro/nmsp-release-citation-numbers-in-30-day-blitz/
