Bipartisan Legislation to Restore Wetlands and Migratory Bird Habitat Passes Senate

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission, and John Kennedy (R-La.) announced that their bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) through 2028 has passed the Senate as part of the America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Reauthorization Act of 2024. The bill now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives.

NM Film Office Announces “The Lost Bus” Filming in NM

Santa Fe, NM—New Mexico Film Office Director Amber Dodson announced today that the feature film “The Lost Bus” is filming in and around Santa Fe, Española, and Ruidoso.

The production will employ over 2,500 New Mexicans - 480 crew members and 2,100 background talent.

Based on an original screenplay by Emmy Award®-winner Brad Ingelsby and directed by Paul Greengrass (“News of the World”), the film stars Academy Award®-winner Matthew McConaughey and Academy Award®-nominee and Emmy®, SAG®, and Golden Globe Award®-winner America Ferrera. The new dramatic feature is produced by Academy Award®-winner Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jason Blum's Blumhouse, Ingelsby, and Greg Goodman.

NM awards $11.78 million in energy efficiency grants for underserved communities

SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) is thrilled to announce the recipients of the inaugural Community Energy Efficiency Development (CEED) Program grants. These grants, totaling $11.78 million, have been allocated to eight carefully selected projects across the state. Funding for these initiatives includes $10 million from the New Mexico Legislature and an additional $1.78 million from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Legislation to Scale Up Locally Led Big Game Migration Initiatives

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and U.S. Representatives Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) and Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) introduced the Habitat Connectivity on Working Lands Act to help the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scale up popular, locally-led, and voluntary big game migration pilot projects with private landowners, conservationists, and agriculture groups.

NM Organized Crime Commission fact finding Chihuahua delegation

SANTA FE - A criminal justice delegation from Chihuahua, Mexico is visiting two state agencies in Santa Fe to learn about accreditation, training, and budget practices. The Organized Crime Commission established by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is hosting the delegation as they tour the New Mexico Department of Public Safety and the New Mexico Corrections Department.

The Mexican federal government recently transferred all corrections facilities in the state of Chihuahua to that state’s Department of Public Safety. Chihuahua’s DPS cabinet secretary has made it a top priority to root out organized crime from the department’s corrections facilities.

Supreme Court revises pretrial rules to promote public safety

SANTA FE – Supreme Court Chief Justice David K. Thomson today announced revisions to pretrial rules to promote public safety and require courts to reconsider the release conditions of defendants arrested for a new crime while awaiting trial.

The Supreme Court issued an order approving the new rules, which become effective immediately for pending cases and those filed starting today (May 8). Revisions to pretrial rules have been under consideration since last summer, and the Court published proposed amendments in February for public comment.

New Mexico Launches First-Ever Youth Apprenticeship Program Innovative Work-Based Learning Initiative Provides Debt-Free Path to Career Success

SANTA FE, N.M. (5/6/24) – The New Mexico State Apprenticeship Council approved Future Focused Education to establish and operate the state's first “youth apprenticeship program.” The X3 NeXt Youth Apprenticeship initiative represents an innovative work-based learning model that combines paid on-the-job training with related classroom instruction, allowing students to gain critical professional experience and earn debt-free college credits toward an associate's degree or industry certification. While all registered apprenticeship programs are open to youths, “youth apprenticeship programs” focus specifically on creating opportunities for people ages 16 to 24.
