BREAKING: Kamala Harris Goes Silent on Green New Deal

Washington, D.C. - In a bombshell report out this morning, the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris is refusing to answer if she still supports the controversial Green New Deal. While running for President in 2019, Kamala Harris stated she would eliminate the Senate’s filibuster rules in order to pass the Green New Deal. Now, she is refusing to answer if she still supports that position.

Washington, D.C. - With the United Nations Climate Week set to kick off this weekend, it’s unclear whether Vice President Kamala Harris will be attending. Since becoming the Democratic Nominee for President, Harris has reversed herself on key energy positions such as fracking, electric vehicle mandates, and single-use plastics. These new positions would normally put her at odds with supporters during Climate Week. Historically, Harris has attended international climate conferences, including December 2023’s UN’s COP28 where she pledged $3 billion in taxpayer dollars to support the climate agenda. 

Washington, D.C. - In response to tonight’s Presidential Debate, Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power the Future issued the following statement:

“Kamala Harris was allowed to stay vague on her policy flip-flops, offering zero reasons for her alleged change of heart on fracking and electric vehicles. That’s why we should all be suspicious of what Kamala Harris says, but never doubt what she’s done. Kamala Harris illegally stopped natural gas exports hurting states like Pennsylvania, and oversaw the fewest acres leased for oil production since World War II. She can hide from answering questions on the debate stage, but can’t hide from the truth.”

Washington, D.C. - In what is at least the third major reversal on energy, the Harris Campaign now says Vice President Kamala Harris no longer favors a ban on plastic straws. When running for President in 2019, Harris clearly stated “I think we should, yes,” when asked if she would ban straws. Now, similar to the pattern adopted by her other major policy reversals, the new stance is not mentioned by the Vice President herself, but instead by a campaign staffer in a statement.

“Will the real Kamala Harris please stand up? These are major policy reversals that will impact millions of families so we deserve to know the reasons behind why Kamala Harris can’t seem to go more than a week without a major flip-flop,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. “Cowardly hiding behind campaign staff statements tells us all we need to know: if elected, Kamala Harris will do nothing but hide from major decisions.”

Washington, D.C. - Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is celebrating their spending an additional $7.3 billion on the green agenda with the stated purpose of helping rural America. Calling it the “largest investment in rural electrification since the New Deal,” the announcement is similar to previous administration commitments for electric vehicle charging stations and electric school buses. Both programs are now raising serious questions about financial mismanagement. 

Albuquerque – More bad news for the company behind Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s $600 million taxpayer-funded solar proposal. Maxeon Solar announced today they expect sales in the 3rd quarter of 2024 to “decline significantly” while their stock cratered to 9 cents per share. In August 2023,  Governor Lujan Grisham celebrated Maxeon Solar’s “investment” in a new Albuquerque-based manufacturing facility with a promise it would break ground in the first quarter this year. Construction on the facility has yet to begin despite Governor Lujan Grisham offering $600 million in incentives.

Washington, D.C. - In a nationally-televised interview tonight, Vice President Kamala Harris offered her first in-person responses since becoming a nominee for President. During that time, the Harris Campaign has relied on statements from staffers as proof Harris is changing her positions on critical issues. Tonight for the first time, Harris attempted to answer for herself about her reversals on support for a fracking ban and her sponsorship of the Green New Deal. In response, Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future, issued the following statement:

Albuquerque – In a stunning reversal today, Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign announced she no longer supports electric vehicle (EV) mandates. This massive reversal comes after the Biden-Harris Administration announced EV mandates just last March and just over a year after Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced her own mandate.

“Governor Lujan Grisham is one of Kamala Harris’ biggest supporters in the state, so to see the Vice President quickly abandon her failed energy agenda must be shocking,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “Forcing unwanted vehicles upon New Mexico’s working families is wrong no matter if it’s being done by Santa Fe or Washington, D.C. However, expect Governor Lujan Grisham to stay silent on this latest surrender because she likely knows Harris will quickly abandon this position again if she’s elected.”
