Petra Martinez Carbajal, 86, of Silver City, NM passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Petra was born on January 18, 1938 in Gila, NM to Cipriano and Angelita Martinez.

Petra enjoyed playing bingo, and Loteria. Some of her hobbies included crocheting, and doing ceramics. Her passion was going to the casino and having a margarita every now and then. She worked for WNMU as a custodian till she retired. In July of 1960 she married the love of her life, Rodolfo G. Carbajal. Together they raised six children. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Rene M. Carbajal, and Rudy J. Carbajal (Yvette); her daughters, Mary Ann Arellano (John), Barbara Chavez (Joe), Emily Madrid (Navor), Sarah Chavez (David); twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-four great grandchildren; twelve great great-grandchildren; her brother, Cipriano Martinez Jr.; close family friends, Colton Rhodes (Patricia).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Rodolfo G. Carbajal ('96); two grandsons, Raul C. Peña III and Arturo U. Hernandez; two brothers, Antonio and Jose Martinez; four sisters, Virginia Saavedra, Francisca Medina, Priscilla Marquez, and Lupe Abeyta.

ARTHUR "TUDY" MARRUFO OCHOA, 76, lifelong resident of Deming passed away Thursday September 12, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be Friday evening, September 20, 2024 from 5 to 7 at Baca's Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10 at Citi-Life Church with Pastor Cesar Chavez officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.

Art was born February 11, 1948 in Deming to Robert G. and Alice M. Ochoa. He graduated from Deming High School in 1966. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1967 and completed his service in 1975. He married Aurora "Dora" Ochoa in 1969. During this time he furthered his education at Western New Mexico University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. He received his Master's of Arts from New Mexico Highland University in 1976. Art returned to Deming in 1971 and taught Industrial Arts and Drafting in the Deming Public Schools for 25 years retiring in 1996. Art was known for his humor and discipline impacting our Deming youth during his teaching career. During that time he also received his contractor's license and started his construction company known as Circle T Construction.

Robert B. Wallace, 59, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at nine-thirty in the morning on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Silver City, NM. Concluding services and inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded.

James L. Palmer, 90, of Silver City passed away at home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.

Guadalupe Sanchez Sedillos, 93, of Santa Clara passed away on September 12, 2024 at Fort Bayard Medical Center surrounded by her family. Services are pending.

Maria Cristina Carrasco Ontiveros, 55, Deming resident passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces.

Visitation will take place on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Baca's Funeral Chapel at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 o'clock in the evening led by Jessica Gonzales. Mass of the Christian Burial will be the next morning, Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 11 o'clock at Saint Ann's Catholic Church with the interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Fr. Francis Gyau officiating.

Maria was born to Belen Ontiveros and Juan Ponce in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. She came to Deming around 50 years ago. Maria enjoyed music and dancing and loved to take care of her garden and animals. She was the person to go to when you needed advice or just someone to talk to. Her family was everything to her.

Ruby C. Prevost, 91, passed away in Albuquerque, NM September 10, 2024. Ruby was born in Leadville, Colorado January 10, 1933. Shortly after her birth her family moved to Point Pleasant, West Virginia where she grew up on the banks of the Ohio River. In an effort to help with her mother's tuberculosis, the family moved to Silver City, NM in 1945. After graduating from high school, she met and married Bob Beck and spent a short time in California while he was in the Navy.

Once her children started school, Ruby enrolled at Western New Mexico University and got an education degree. She taught school for many years at Hurley Elementary School sometimes taking her grandchildren to school with her; they have fond memories of those days. In 1976, she married Fred Prevost. Once Fred retired from Kennecott, they did lots of travelling with him taking her to many of the enchanting places he had visited as a young man.
